When travelling the Antalieptės žiedas bike trail, you will visit the spectacular landscape and surroundings of Antalieptė created by the Šventoji and Šavaša Rivers, and get to know the traditions and culture of the local people. We invite you to travel from one site to another by bike (overall length of the route is ~ 20km), and take time off for a short walk at each stop. On your trip, you will visit Antalieptė town, the Šavaša interpretive hiking trail, the impressive mound of Verslava; you will see the only mountain-type water-power plant in Lithuania, and many other interesting and intriguing sites.
A visit to the local craftsman Zenonas Striška is a must; he is the only person in the region who knows how to make wooden rakes and antique hives. You should also meet housewives from Antalieptė rural community and let them help you make some delicious traditional cakes called lieptainiai. Also visit the Antalieptė Ethnographic Museum and Museum of Energy.
The Antalieptės žiedas bike trail was constructed in 2013 upon implementation of the European Voluntary Service (EVS) project “Creative Hands for Nature”. This nature trail is marked with directional markers creatively and playfully decorated by volunteers, and also with mythological statues; therefore you can enjoy exploring this trail together with the smallest visitors. Ride your bike slowly – take in everything this hospitable region has to offer!
We recommend starting your trip at the Antalieptė multifunctional centre (M. Reinio g. 6, Antalieptė). Your car may be left there safely.
