The Salakas interpretive hiking trail is a circular route of about 5km that presents the historical town of Salakas and its neighbourhoods.
The interpretive hiking trail has directional markers to guide you along a boardwalk on the shore of Lake Luodis towards the observation tower, from which there is a panoramic view of the lake. This is a wonderful spot for observing water birds.
The information stands along the interpretive hiking trail will tell you the story of the biggest pike caught in the lake, and introduce you to the vegetation and birds of the alluvial forest.
The stands present video and audio information. Scan the QR code, and you will be able to listen to the songs of the birds or climb a virtual tower with your smart device.
Gražutė Regional Park Visitor Centre, much appreciated by families, is on the interpretive hiking trail route. Here you will find Vida Žilinskienė’s Sea Museum, an interactive exhibition of the natural environment of the Regional Park and an interesting ethnographic exhibition of the Salakas region. The Visitor Centre is equipped for people with reduced mobility. Protected Area Visitor’s tickets are also on sale here.
Following the directional markers on the interpretive hiking trail, you will visit the interesting Tartar cemetery in Salakas and the old cemetery of the town, the well-tended Salakas town centre, and a memorial museum to the first schoolteacher in Salakas, A. Poderis. You will also see the church of the Great Martyr St. Virgin Mary, the country’s highest stone church.
This trail is an ideal opportunity to see vestiges of the last ice age – Salakas Oz!? If you still think this is a shopping mall – start off along the Salakas interpretive hiking trail!
We wish you pleasant impressions and an enjoyable visit!
