At Gražutė Regional Park, the trip along the Šventoji starts from Lake Luodis. Further on, the Šventoji river connects lakes Luodykštis, Asavas, Asavėlis, Ūpartas and the picturesque Antalieptė Reservoir forming a water route admired by tourists – Šventosios aukštupys.
The Šventoji is an ever-rushing beauty of Upper Lithuania holding several surprises: complicated waterlogged lake channels turn into rocky rapids and the labyrinths of islands and peninsulas of Antalieptė Reservoir are a real treasure trove for tourists.
Only water tourists have the unique opportunity of seeing the geological sites of the Park –the lake lagoons formed by Lake Luodis– the peninsulas of Žvėrinčius and Black Horn. The water route along the upper reaches of the Šventoji features the interesting Tiltiškės water mill, a former museum of energy. There is an exhibition of electricity utility poles next to the mill. The Antalieptė Reservoir has more than 50 islands, each more interesting than the other. The islands Skeleto (Skeleton) and Šešėlių (Shadows) make you shudder. There are even three islands with Old-Believer cemeteries. Large numbers of water birds inhabit the islands and the Reservoir. Birds Island is a sitting place for Black-headed gulls and terns, and another island is a restful place for a cormorant colony.
